Artistic Statement
My painting begins outdoors, in direct contact with nature. With the help of water, pigments, charcoal, and other materials, sensory impressions and intuition are transformed into visual essences in which atmosphere becomes more important than description, and gesture more significant than detail.
Each painting opens up a space between reality and the imagination. The landscape does not necessarily appear as a representation of a certain place (although they do sometimes) but as a resonant space of light, mood, and memory. This is how evoking landscapes come into being.
I am still fascinated by fundamental aesthetic qualities: compositions that are both balanced and dynamic, the interplay of light and dark, warm and cool, clarity and blur. I seek out striking lines as well as tender ones, spontaneous color gradients, and visible traces of brushwork and the creative process. Also minimalist approach to material and form characterizes my work. Ideally, a single brushstroke already embodies the essence of a painting.
Abstract rhythms, unusual color harmonies, overlays, wet-on-wet transitions, as well as the unfinished, the sketch-like, and the spontaneous are not preliminary stages for me, but rather independent pictorial qualities. In this way, I move along the border of abstraction without abandoning the connection to experienced reality.
