Kreativer Prozess: eine Reise durch Abstraktion und Natur

Wasser und Pigmente sind ein wunderbares Medium – zugleich expressiv, wesentlich, abstrakt und flüchtig-frisch. Mit ihnen kann ich rasch Gestalt, Eindruck oder Bewegung eines Motivs erfassen und aufzeichnen.

Je nach Jahreszeit, Stimmung und äußeren Gegebenheiten arbeite ich in Serien in sito – niemals nach Fotografien, sondern stets nach der echten Natur da draußen, abstraiert durch die Welt in meinem Inneren.

Ich zeichne/male meist „schneller als ich denken kann“, und das ist Programm. Ich „möchte meine Seele anzapfen“, und die zentnerschwere Ratio stört dabei. Und ich arbeite alla prima – in one go – denn ich bin ungeduldig, impulsiv und zutiefst lebenshungrig. Malen ist wie ein Rausch für mich.

Die Serien, die so entstehen, erfüllen mich – und hallen lange nach. Doch letztlich zählt der sinnliche Vorgang des Schöpfens. Es ist wie Seiltanzen: jederzeit kann ich fallen. Und wenn ich falle, stehe ich wieder auf, gehe weiter, fange neu an. Im besten Fall ist es ein Spiel – für die Welt vielleicht belanglos, für mich aber in diesem Moment das Wichtigste.

So entstehen keine fertigen „Gemälde“ im traditionellen Sinn – es geht um Momentaufnahmen, um Fließendes. Festgehalten in Skizzenbüchern, auf Servietten, Papptellern, im Sand – von Zeit zu Zeit auf tollen Papieren, die wiederum eine (ästhetische) Welt für sich sind.

Nature, Pigments, Water and the Play of Chance …
Creative Process: A Journey Through Abstraction and Nature

Water and pigments are a wonderful medium—expressive, essential, abstract, and fleetingly fresh. With them, I can quickly capture the shape, impression, or movement of a motif and commit it to paper.

Depending on the season, mood, and surrounding conditions, I work in series—never from photographs, but always from real nature outside, filtered through the world within.

The series that emerge from this process fulfill me—and resonate long after. Yet what truly matters is the sensual act of creation. It’s like walking a tightrope: I can fall at any moment. And when I do, I get back up, keep going, begin again. At its best, it’s a game—perhaps trivial to the world, but in that moment, nothing is more important to me.

No finished “paintings” arise in the traditional sense—what I create are snapshots, fluid impressions. Captured in sketchbooks, on napkins, paper plates, in sand—and now and then on exquisite papers that themselves form to me an aesthetic world of their own.

I usually draw and paint faster than I can think—and that’s entirely intentional. I want to tap into my soul, directly and unfiltered. The heavy weight of rationality only gets in the way.

I work alla prima—in one go, without correction—because I’m impatient, impulsive, and deeply hungry for life. For me, painting is a rush: a state beyond control, a moment of pure presence and joy.
